Organizer, Event, taxation

‘BP16’ conference is organized by B+B Mezzofanti Bt., a partnership registered in Budapest, Hungary (Registered seat: Széchenyi utca 8., Budapest 1054, Hungary; Czech VAT number: CZ 683745989), hereinafter referred to as Organizer.

The conference itself (‘Event‘) will take place on Friday, 15 April, 2016 and Saturday, 16 April, 2016, between 9:00 and 17:30 on both days. The price of a ticket for the Event includes the admission of one person to the event premises, including all conference rooms, all sessions, presentations and workshops held during the Event, as well as all catering during the Event, including buffet lunch on both days, and two coffee breaks on each day. The conference ticket also includes admission to the farewell party on Saturday, 16 April, 2016.  The Event will take place in Hotel Don Giovanni at Vinohradská 157a, 130 20 Praha 3, Czech Republic.

Ticket price also includes Czech value added tax (21%), but does not include any transaction costs associated with the payment process.

Tickets for the Event will be available when announced on this website.

Additional events  will be priced separately and will not be included in the Event ticket. Such additional events may include seminars and workshops, as well as sightseeing tours and day trips before and after the Event, as well as evening programs (including a ‘Welcome dinner’ on 14 April, a ‘Gala dinner’ on 15 April, and a ‘Farewell dinner’ on 16 April).

Tickets to the Event and additional events will be available online under the Register tab of this website. Payment may be effected by wire transfer (direct bank transfer) or via TransferWise.com. Registration for the Event is completed once the ticket price is paid in full.

You may choose between direct bank transfer, TransferWise, and PayPal.  If you live in the EU, a direct bank transfer (SEPA transfer) may be the easiest/cheapest option.  TransferWise is a cheaper alternative, but this option works only between currencies; i.e. only if your bank account is denominated in a currency other than Euro.  If you live outside the EU, PayPal / bank card may turn out to be cheaper. Please note that a 3.9% surcharge is applied to such payments to compensate for the service charges deducted by PayPal – but this is often less than what your bank would charge for a wire transfer.

Due to a special VAT regime in the Czech Republic applicable to travel services, prices of day trips and walking tours had to be split into two portions.  A smaller portion (‘booking fee’) is payable through the BP16 webshop, while the larger part is payable in cash directly to the tour operator.  For example, a day trip to Kutná Hora costs 45 €; in the webshop you’ll pay 11 €, and this will appear on your invoice as a ‘booking fee’, including VAT.  You’ll pay the remaining 34 € to the tour operator whose representative will be there at the conference venue when you pick up your badges.

All tickets include Czech value added tax. The tax rate is 21% (based on the net amount), which means that roughly 17.355% is the tax portion of any gross amount. All prices published here are gross amounts. For example, the regular price of the conference is published as 299 €. This means the net price is 247.11 €, and VAT amounts to 51.89 €.

Unlike for translation services, local VAT must be charged on all serviced provided locally, in line with EU taxation policy. Read this and look for example 35: “For a conference organised in Stockholm for participants paying a fee to attend, Swedish VAT is charged.”  Value added tax must be charged in accordance with EU VAT directive, articles 53 and 54 (services in respect of admission to cultural, artistic, sporting, scientific, educational, entertainment and similar events will be taxed at the place where those events actually take place).
